Your tropical escape in the heart of Noosa!

Islander tropical pool in the heart of Noosa

Escape to the Islander Noosa Resort and enjoy staying in a 2 bedroom self contained villa set amongst 4 acres of lush tropical gardens of palm trees and hibiscus.

Villa 40 offers partial accessibility, and has been modified to provide level entry at front and back, as well as grab rails in the bathroom and an electric height adjustable bed. There are also two other villas in the resort that have ramp access (but with minimal modifications to the bathroom).

Shady level pathways meander around the resort. The timber path has been treated with a non-slip surface and is lit up at night providing ambience and safety.

The Islander Noosa is centrally located on Gympie Terrace, close to restaurants and the tranquil Noosa River, where fishing, swimming and boating are popular attractions. The Noosa River also boasts fabulous sunsets, an accessible tennis court, boardwalk and bar-b-cues.

All units are fully self contained with air conditioning, full kitchens and laundries, and of course linen and bath towels are supplied. Any length of stay is catered for, and villas are serviced weekly for stays of 8 days or more. For an additional fee the resort is also happy to service units daily.

A starter kit of tea, coffee, detergents and shampoo is provided and additional supplies can be purchased from reception or the nearby supermarket.

Bedrooms

Villa 40 is a two bedroom apartment suitable for use by people with a disability, as well as older people and people with limited mobility. The main bedroom is compact, but makes good use of the space available. A second bedroom with two single beds is available for guests or a carer.

  • Door width: 780 mm
  • Door opener: Knob handle
  • Floor surface: low pile carpet
  • Manoeuvrability: limited space means turning a wheelchair or using a hoist would be difficult without moving the furniture - this is possible but would restrict transfers to left side of bed
  • Bed size: Queen
  • Mattress style: Ensemble
  • Bed height: electric height adjustment with hand held controls
  • Transfers: easiest access is from left side (bedroom arrangement allows people to wheel straight in beside bed from living area)
  • Full length mirror: No
  • Clothes hanger: Not accessible from a seated position
  • Reading lights: Accessible from bed
  • Telephone beside bed: No
  • Television: Yes, manual control (no remote)

Bathroom/toilet

The bathroom has been partially adapted. Features include:

  • Door opener: sliding
  • Maneuverability: the bathroom is small and would be awkward in a wheelchair or commode - maneuverability is made easier by the fact that there are two doors that can be opened to assist turning (one from each bedroom)
  • Shower access:
    • Size of shower recess: 870 x 580 mm
    • Walk-in hobless shower with glass door and screen
    • Adjustable height hand held shower nozzle
    • Plastic shower seat provided
    • Fixed horizontal grab rails
    • Knob style taps for hot and cold water
  • Toilet access:
    • Height: 410 mm
    • Space for side transfers from left only.
    • Grab rail is mounted (horizontally) on the left side behind toilet - it is easiest to use if sitting sideways on the seat
  • Wash basin: Overhanging basin allows space for knees if seated and pipes are not exposed - hot and cold water taps are knob style
  • Amenities: a wall mounted hair drier is also available

Living area, showing cane lounge.

Lounge

The living area is a great place to relax, with:

  • Comfortable seating - the cane lounge has firm cushioned seating with arms, making it easier to get in and out of
  • Pedestal dining table
  • TV with remote control

The managers are happy to move items if requested (eg rugs or additional seating) to make the apartments safer or more spacious

Galley style kitchen.

Kitchen and Laundry

The kitchen is compact and only partially accessible for wheelchair users, as the access is narrow. Features include:

  • Easy access controls at front of stove
  • Benchtop microwave accessible from a seated position
  • Accessible pantry
  • Fridge and front loading dishwasher
  • Knob style taps on sink

Laundry facilities include a top loading washing machine and front loading (wall mounted) drier. These would not be accessible from a wheelchair as the controls are out of reach.

A weekly linen and towel service is provided.

Parking & reception

The reception is accessed from Gympie Terrace. It is spacious and welcoming with seating for guests. The office has two entrances, one with two steps and the other with only a small lip.

Once you have booked in and received the keys, the best entrance to Villa 40 is via Thomas Street. The resort has locked gates and you will need to use a security tag to get inside.

The apartment has one undercover parking space that is 2700 mm wide (it is half of a double parking bay). Visitor parking is also available for other guests.

You can enter the apartment using the ramp at the back door or via the front door (which is wider and has easier access). The front entrance has a sliding door and keyed lock. The door opens to 940 mm wide (ramp width is 790 mm).

Pathways.

Areas that are not accessible

  • Pathways around the resort are narrow but manageable in a wheelchair or scooter.
  • There is a large outdoor pool and a smaller heated pool. However currently the only access into the water is via steps (no rails).
  • Laundry facilities are not accessible from a wheelchair
  • The apartment is compact in design and manoeuvrability in a large wheelchair would be restricted
