Noosa River

The scenic Noosa River is a great spot for outdoor activities, fun and relaxation.

Noosaville was once a small fishing village for the Gympie gold miners, and these days the peaceful river is still a popular fishing spot. The parkland and river foreshore, as well as the great restaurants that now line Gympie Terrace, are enjoyed by both locals and tourists.

Accessibility

The riverside parkland has recently been upgraded and provides excellent accessibility for everyone!

There are designated accessible parking spots along Gympie Terrace, accessible public toilets (at three locations along the river), and improved access to community facilities, such as free gas Bar-B-Ques, tennis court, sheltered picnic areas and the waters edge.

Noosa River Boardwalk.

Boardwalk

Wide level pathways and viewing platforms extend the full length of the river from the start of Gympie Terrace as far as Lions Park at the northern end (approximately 1.5 kilometres). The boardwalk offers easy access for people using wheelchairs or scooters, as well as parents with prams, bike riders and people with limited mobility.

Access to the water

There is a ramp onto the sandy beach at the eastern end of the Terrace near T-Boats and fishing jetties at various points along the river.

During the daytime, there are many activities to choose from, including:

  • A leisurely walk along the river
  • Feeding the pelicans
  • Relaxing in the shade and having a picnic
  • Fishing off the jetty
  • Cooking up a Bar-B-Que
  • Calm water swimming
  • Playing a game of tennis

If you are out for a stroll at dusk you'll hear the lorikeets squabbling, as they settle down on their perches for the night. Its also the place for beautiful sunsets.

Shade areas

The name Noosa came from the Aboriginal word meaning "shade" and there are plenty of shady areas and trees all along the riverbank, with seats and picnic tables for you to enjoy.

Of course you can always stop for a coffee or alfresco lunch at one of the many outdoor restaurants with views of the river, or order take-away and sit on the river bank.
