Noosa River Sandy Shores is a perfect getaway located amongst the heart of Noosaville. There is so much to see and do, why not come and stay a weekend. Our onsite managers would be happy to help you with any sightseeing suggestions, or any other information or help, required to make this a perfect holiday.

The complex is situated just a short stroll to 27 of Noosaville's most exquisite restaurants, the Noosa Village Shopping Centre and of course the ever popular Noosa River on Gympie Terrace.

All units are fully self contained and can be accessed via a lift (with Braille signage) from the basement car park to the first and second levels. Unit 5 has been custom designed with accessibility in mind, including an adapted bathroom, spacious layout, air-conditioning, ceiling fan and a television in the bedroom for ease of access. There is undercover accessible parking at the entrance, with an accessible outdoor Bar-B-Que area for guests to enjoy.

Bedroom

Unit 5 is a one bedroom wheelchair friendly apartment suitable for use by people with a disability, as well as older people and people with limited mobility. There is also a comfortable fold-down divan/lounge in the living room that can be used by a guest or carer. The bedroom has a sliding screen door that provides privacy if travelling with family, friends or a companion.

  • Door opening: Double sliding screens
  • Floor surface: low pile carpet

  • Mattress style: Ensemble
  • Bed height: 570 mm (720 mm with leg raisers fitted)
  • Hoist: The higher legs provide sufficient clearance for use of a hoist
  • Transfers: there is 900 mm space on left side of bed and 1000 mm on right (sideays movement of bed is limited to 15 mm in either direction)
  • Clothes hanger: Not accessible from a seated position
  • Television: (on request)
  • Laundry: Weekly linen and towel service

Bathroom/toilet

The bathroom has been adapted for wheelchair and/or shower commode access. Features include:

  • Door opening: 770 mm with lever style handle
  • Maneuverability: level access 1830 mm x 2240 mm
  • Shower access:
    • Walk-in hobless shower with sliding door (opening 740 mm)
    • Hand held shower nozzle
    • Folding shower seat fixed to right side of wall
    • Fixed horizontal grab rails
  • Full length mirror: Yes
  • Toilet access:
    • Toilet height: 480 mm
    • Suitable for over-toilet commode (45 mm from back wall)
    • Space for side transfers onto toilet is limited.
    • Fixed rails beside and behind toilet
  • Wash basin: Lever flick mixer tap with knee space for use when seated (pipes have not been insulated)

Kitchen and living areas

Eat-in or order take-away ... the combined kitchen living area offers relaxed air-conditioned comfort and flexibility. There is plenty of room for a wheelchair to easily move around and the managers are happy to assist in moving furniture if more room is required. Features include:

  • Entry via front door: 720 mm opening (key lock with knob handle)
  • Vinyl floor surface
  • Microwave (can be positioned on bench) and cooktop with dials at front
  • Lever taps
  • Cable TV and VCR

There is a breakfast bar (with bar stools) in the kitchen that is set at bench height and not usable for people in wheelchairs. Lap trays are available as an option.

Areas that are not accessible

The out door heated pool has steps into the water, so may pose difficulties for people with disabilities. However, Noosa Community provide beach wheelchairs for swimming at Noosa River, Noosa Main Beach and Boreen Point!

The sliding balcony doors can be opened to provide fresh air (width of opening 1665 mm). However, the door mechanism prevents a level pathway outside (step is 100 mm - approximately 4 inches high).
